Their intent was not to create a new app or search engine, but to discover how to build a better boss. They believed that building a better boss was vital to their future success.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0Now, this is a data based organization, so you know that they didn\u2019t slack when it came to finding data to support their findings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Quite the contrary, the statisticians compiled over 10,000 observations about managers. They spent hours poring over performance reviews and feedback surveys across over 100 variables, looking for emerging patterns in the data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">They synthesized the data, coded it and ended up with over 400 pages of notes from interviews.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">You would think that the results would have been startingly revealing and different than anything that has been compiled in the past.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But it wasn\u2019t. The list that they came up with, after all this exhaustive research, that determines \u201cthe qualities of an effective boss\u201d was anything but startling. In fact, it was downright mundane and predictable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">These are their findings in order of importance:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Be a good coach<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Empower your team and don\u2019t micromanage<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Express interest in team member\u2019s success and personal well-being<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Don\u2019t be a sissy: Be productive and results oriented<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Be a good communicator and listen to your team<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Help your employees with career development<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Have a clear vision and strategy for the team<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Have technical skills so that you can help the team<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The list almost elicits a \u201clike, duh\u201d response. But there you have it.
